How can I become a volunteer at O.E.D.D.?
To become a volunteer at O.E.D.D., one must be 18 years of age or older. By completing the application form found here , after it has been reviewed by the O.E.D.D. Board of Directors, an appointment is made at our facilities for the first meeting.
What obligations do I have as a registered member?
All members of the O.E.D.D. undergo basic training so that they can staff the fire truck crew. Regarding the time it takes someone to work, ideally, three shifts of 4 hours each, per week.
Do I need to purchase personal protective equipment and additional equipment?
The OEDD has taken care to equip and charge each volunteer with the following personal protective equipment:
Firefighting boots, fire-resistant gloves, work gloves, fire hood, full station uniform, full heavy-duty uniform, helmet, safety glasses and half-face mask. However, there are volunteers who have purchased their own personal protective equipment, so the borrowed equipment is returned to the team.
I want to join a forest firefighting team but I live far away.
What can I do?
Most groups involved in forest firefighting and environmental protection are registered in the Register of Voluntary Organizations. You can find the group near you here and contact them.
